Yesterday Elon Musk provided a bit more information about Tesla’s next model, the Model Y crossover. We already knew that the Model Y will share its DNA with the Model 3, but now Elon Musk has revealed that it share about 75 percent of its parts with the electric sedan.

During its quarterly earnings call, Elon Musk also revealed that the Model Y will not be built at its Fremont plant, which currently builds the Model S, X and 3. Instead the Model Y will be built at Gigafactory 1 in Nevada. The decision to build the Model Y at a separate plant does make sense, since Tesla expects the demand for the Model Y to be much higher than the Model 3.

Production of the Tesla Model Y crossover is expected to kick off in 2020. It’s also being reported that the Model Y will start below $40k.
