Tesla has announced that it produced 34,494 vehicles in the first quarter of this year, which is a 40% increase from Q4 2017 and by far the most productive quarter ever for Tesla. The Tesla produced 24,728 Model S and Model X vehicles, while 9,766 Model 3 sedans were produced in the quarter.
All eyes are on the Model 3 and Tesla says that it has ramped up production significantly. In the past seven days, Tesla produced 2,020 Model 3 sedans. Tesla also says that in the next seven days it expects to produce 2,000 Model S and X vehicles and 2,000 Model 3 sedans. Tesla is still aiming for a goal of producing 5,000 Model 3 sedans a week.
“Given the progress made thus far and upcoming actions for further capacity improvement, we expect that the Model 3 production rate will climb rapidly through Q2.”
Q1 deliveries totaled 29,980 vehicles, of which 11,730 were Model S, 10,070 were Model X, and 8,180 were Model 3. 4,060 Model S and X vehicles were on their way to customers at the end of Q1, which was 68% higher than at the end of Q4 2017. Plus 2,040 Model 3 sedans were also in transit to customers.
Reservations for the Model 3 remained stable during the first quarter of this year, but there were cancellations, which were mainly due to the delay of the cheaper Model 3 and the dual motor AWD version.
Lastly Tesla wants to point out that the quality of Model 3 coming off the production line is at the highest level it’s seen from any of its vehicles.
