Earlier this week it was discovered that Subaru recently trademarked the “S209” name, which hinted at a special version of the WRX STI for the US. Now Subaru has announced that it’s bringing “something special” to the Detroit Auto Show next month.

Subaru has released a teaser video of the special WRX STI, wrapped in camouflage. We don’t yet know what upgrades the unique model will get, but we can see some changes to the exterior in this teaser.

At the front the more hardcore WRX STI gets a more aggressive face with canards at the corners and a new splitter. It also looks like it will ride on wider tires, since the front and rear fenders are also getting some tweaks. At the rear the exhausts may be a bit bigger.

Stay tuned.
