Subaru has released several special edition versions of the WRX STI, but sadly models, like the S208 and Type RA-R have never been offered in the US. But now Subaru may finally be working on a special edition of the WRX STI for the US.

Subaru WRX STI Final Edition

Subaru has filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the “S209” name, which hints at a successor to the WRX STI S208, which was sold in Japan.

The WRX STI S208 featured a larger rear spoiler, carbon fiber roof, BBS wheels, a better steering system, Bilstein dampers, and active torque vectoring.  The WRX STI S208 was also powered by a 324-hp turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder compared to the 310-hp 2.5L engine that powers the WRX STI in the US.

The WRX STI S208 was also only offered in one color, Cool Gray Khaki and production was limited to only 450 units. If the WRX STI S209 is coming to the US, Subaru will likely limit the production, like the WRX STI S208.

Stay tuned.
