Last week Subaru took the wraps off the all-new 2015 Subaru Legacy sedan at the Chicago Auto Show. When the 2015 Legacy arrives in showrooms buyers can choose between a 2.5L four-cylinder or 3.6L six-cylinder engine, but a new report says that a turbocharged Legacy Sport is in the works.

Car & Driver is reporting that the new Legacy Sport model will be powered by the same 2.0L turbcharged 2.0L four-cylinder as the new WRX. In the WRX the 2.0L engine generates 268 horsepower, which is actually more than the 3.6L six-cylinder in the 2015 Legacy. So what does that mean for the fate of the 3.6L engine? It’s due to be replaced by a smaller, more powerful flat six-cylinder when the Legacy receives its mid-cycle refresh, which will be in about three years.

The new six-cylinder is also expected to be offered in a new three-row Subaru crossover.
