BMW is expected to unveil a revised 3 Series next spring and while we still away from the debut some details have already started to leak out. The biggest news to date is that the current N20 (2.0L 4-cyl) and N55 (3.0L 6-cyl) engines are being replaced.

Currently the 328i and 428i models are powered by the N20 four-cylinder engine, but the revised 3-Series and its 4-Series brother will be getting a new four-cylinder engine with the internal name “B48.” The six-cylinder powered 335i and 435i models are also getting a new engine, which is going to be called B58. With the new engines, BMW will also change the naming conventions for both the 3- and 4-Series models. The current 328i and 428i are reportedly going to be named 330i and 430i, while the 335i and 435i models will be renamed 340i and 440i.

At this point it isn’t known if the new engines will have significant performance improvements.

Other updates to the updated 3-Series includes a revised front fascia with a new bumper and updated grille. The rear will also get some smaller updates with a restyled rear bumper. Inside the changes are expected to be smaller with some trim and color updates.

The updated BMW 3-Series, which may be a 2016 model is likely to debut next March at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
