It took a while, but this summer Fiat Chrysler finally got approval to start selling the diesel-powered 2017 Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now the 2017 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel picks are finally starting to show up on dealer lots.

It’s been a year of drama, since Fiat Chrysler was forced to suspend production of the EcoDiesel-powered Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee at the end of 2016, since they weren’t certified for sales. In January of this year, the EPA sent FCA a notice of violation over its emissions control software with the agency stating that the automaker illegally altered vehicle emissions.

In May the Department of Justice’s Environmental and Natural Resources Division filed a civil lawsuit against FCA for the its diesel emissions software, but in late July the EPA gave FCA approval to resume selling its diesel models.

Although the 2017 EcoDiesel models are now available, FCA has not received approval for the 2018 model year.
