Porsche has unveiled the ultimate racer for Porsche fans – a new 935, which was unveiled at the Rennsport Reunion at Laguna Seca Raceway in California.

On the outside the new Porsche 935 pays tribute to the Porsche 935/78 Le Mans race car from the 1970s, which was dubbed “Moby Dick” due to its elongated shape. While the exterior looks completely retro, underneath the skin the new 935 is more modern since its basically a 911 GT2 RS.

The new 935 is powered by a 700 horsepower 3.8-liter six-cylinder twin-turbo engine that’s nearly identical to the engine that powers the 911 GT2 RS. The six-cylinder sends its power to the wheels via a seven-speed PDK transmission. The driver can shift through the seven gears via steering wheel mounted shift paddles.

The new Porsche 935 isn’t intended for the street, since it’s not street legal. It comes standard with only seat for the driver, but a second passenger seat is optional. Porsche only plans to build 77 versions of the new 935 with pricing starting at 701,948 euros ($817,192 US).
