When Porsche introduced the 718 Boxster and Cayman models, Porsche fans were disappointed with the switch to a turbocharged four-cylinder. While the four-cylinder does have some performance advantages over the old six-cylinder, its soundtrack has been a point of contention.

Well now it looks like Porsche might be getting ready to put a six-cylinder back in the 718 Boxster and Cayman. It’s already expected that the upcoming Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder will get a six-cylinder, but it’s also being reported that a second model will be introduced below them with a six-cylinder engine as well.

Automobile is reporting that a six-cylinder model will be added between the GTS and Cayman GT4/ Boxster Spyder. We don’t know yet what the new six-cylinder will be, but it’s expected that the upcoming Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder will borrow the 4.0L flat-six from the 911 GT3.

It’s not known when the new six-cylinder powered model will debut, since for now Porsche has only unveiled the track-ready 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport with its 425-hp 3.8L six-cylinder engine.
