We’ve heard rumors before, but now there are new reports that Opel’s recently unveiled Astra GTC could come to the U.S. and be badged as a Buick. Opel’s Karl-Friedrich Stracke recently stated, “I could easily see it as a Buick.”

The United Auto Workers (UAW) also recently negotiated a new contract with GM that could provide even more proof that the Astra GTC is headed to the U.S. According to union officials GM is set to build a new compact vehicle that will create more than 500 jobs.

GM unveiled the 2012 Opel Astra GTC in June. It rides 15 mm lower than the five-door Astra with wider front and rear tracks. It also gets a sportier suspension. In Europe it’s offered with the choice of a diesel or three different gasoline engines. The top engine is the 180-hp 1.6L turbocharged engine. An even more powerful Astra OPC is expected to debut next year.
