Nissan has unveiled a new electrified minivan – the Nissan Serena e-Power, which is going to debut next week at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. The Serena e-Power uses the same range-extender hybrid powertrain as the Note e-Power.
The electric powertrain borrows from the technology in the Nissan Leaf, but uses a small gasoline engine to charge the battery, eliminating the need for an external charger. Nissan hasn’t revealed any of the official specs for the Serena e-Power, but Nissan does say that “it will also offer the powerful, responsive acceleration of an electric-drive vehicle, along with above-its-class quietness and excellent fuel efficiency.”
The Serena e-Power will also be offered with Nissan’s new ProPILOT single-lane autonomous driving technology that can be used on the highway. The Serena e-Power will go on sale in Japan in the spring of 2018.
