We’re still about a year away from the release of the fourth-generation Toyota Prius, but more details about the next Prius have been released. Some of Toyota’s execs have released a few more details about the next Prius, which will get a revolutionary design, a new gasoline engine and more powerful lithium-ion batteries.
The next Prius is going to be one, if not the first new Toyota that will be built on Toyota’s new platform strategy that targets mass commonization for versatile engineering and low-cost flexible manufacturing. Toyota has also confirmed that the design of the next Prius will be revolutionary, inside and out.

Under the hood the new Prius is going to get a new gasoline engine that will be more efficient than the current 1.8L. New more powerful and lighter lithium-ion batteries will be part of the mix. Toyota is hoping that the next Prius will be around 10 percent more fuel efficient than the current model, which would give it a rating around 55 mpg.
