Next-gen Toyota GT86, Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ may borrow the Miata's chassis

While the it’s unlikely that Toyota would sell a rebadged Miata, there’s a report that the roadster’s chassis could be used for the next-gen Toyota GT86, Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ coupes.

Toyota and Mazda continue to further their partnership, which is seen by the introduction of the new Scion iA, which is essentially a rebadged Mazda2. Now there’s a new rumor that the partnership could involve Toyota borrowing another one of Mazda’s models – the new MX-5 Miata. While the it’s unlikely that Toyota would sell a rebadged Miata, there’s a report that the roadster’s chassis could be used for the next-gen Toyota GT86, Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ coupes.

Car and Driver claims that inside sources have revealed that Toyota is considering using the Miata’s chassis for the next-generation coupe. “If Toyota were to employ the MX-5’s chassis, it would be on the next-generation FT86,” a source revealed.

The rumor may seem a little odd, but Mazda is already sharing the Miata’s platform with Fiat for the new 124 Spider, so it’s possible that Mazda may be open to sharing it with others.
