Jaguar, like several other automakers, has committed to electrifying its entire lineup. That list also now includes the next-generation Jaguar F-Type, since Jaguar Land Rover’s North America CEO, Joe Eberhardt, recently confirmed that it will have an electrified powertrain.
“We are going to do another range of sports cars eventually,” Callum, told Automotive News. “[Sports cars] are not going to go away.”
It remains to be seen when the next F-Type will debut, since Jaguar has only sold 45,000 units worldwide since the F-Type debuted in 2013. Through August of this year Jaguar has sold 2,787 F-Types in the United States, which is only 41 more units during the same time period in 2016.
“There are a number of people in the world who think sports cars are finished because SUVs can get around a corner as quick as a sports car can, technology being what it is,” said Callum. “But there is something very emotional about a sports car that conveys the ultimate in the sense of performance and design.”
What kind of electrified powertrain can we expect in the next F-Type? It will likely get a mild-hybrid setup, when it arrives in a few years.
