Last month there were rumors that VW was considering killing off the Beetle and other slow selling models in its lineup. But now it’s been confirmed that a new Beetle is in the works and that it will arrive within the next three years.
Speaking to Autoblog, Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Volkswagen’s Chairman of the Board of Management, Neusser stated that the new Beetle will ride on the MQB platform, which is also the basis for the Golf. Neusser also revealed that the new Beetle could even be offered with hybrid and electric powertrains.

What will the new Beetle look like? Neusser stated that the new Beetle “will remain an emotional design.”
