Details have been released about the new twin-turbo 5.5L V8 that is going to replace the 6.2L V8 in the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG this summer.
The new 5.5L V8, codenamed M157, is smaller than the outgoing 6.2L V8, but it produces more power and torque, while being more fuel efficient. It puts out 537 horsepower compared to 518-h and puts out 590 lb-ft of torque compared to 464 lb-ft. for the 6.2L. There will also be a performance package upgrade available that will increase the output to 571-hp. The new S63 AMG will reach 0-62 mph in 4.5 seconds and has a governed top speed of 155 mph. The performance package model has a top speed of 186 mph.

The new 5.5L V8 is based on the upcoming twin-turbo 4.6L V8 that will also be offered later this year.
