Mitsubishi to Launch the 2014 Mirage in the US With a Three-Cylinder Engine

Mitsubishi is going to bring its new small car, the Mirage to the US by the end of next year. While the new Mirage subcompact doesn’t really break any new ground on the outside, what is noteworthy is the fact that it will be powered by a small 1.2L three-cylinder engine.

When the Mirage arrives next fall it will be the third model sold in the U.S. with a three-cylinder engine, following the Smart Fortwo and the refreshed 2014 Ford Fiesta.

The official specs for the US-spec 1.2L engine haven’t been released, but if it remains unchanged from the European version, it will only have 79 horsepower. Compared to the 123 horsepower Fiesta, the Mirage will be quite slow and we’ll have to wait and see if buyers actually gravitate towards it… The Mirage will officially debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show in March.
