Mitsubishi has released a teaser photo of the upcoming Outlander Plug-in Hybrid that will debut at this year’s 2012 Paris Motor Show. The new Outlander Plug-in Hybrid will be based on the all-new Outlander and will be the automaker’s first plug-in hybrid. According to Mitsubishi, it will also be the world’s first permanent 4WD electric car.
The Outlander PHEV’s unique drivetrain combination of a front electric motor, a rear electric motor and a gasoline engine will translate into a choice of three driving modes: Pure (Twin Motor 4WD EV), Series (Twin Motor 4WD – EV supported by generator), Parallel (ICE engine supported by Twin Motor 4WD).
Mitsubishi expects the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid to have a total range over 500 miles.
The all-new Outlander will be released this fall, with the Plug-in Hybrid version coming sometime next year.
