Last week Mitsubishi revealed its new “Drive for Growth” plan, which will hopefully see Mitsubishi increase its sales and revenue by 30 percent within the next three years. Now Mitsubishi is ready to show the world how serious it is, with the debut of the Mitsubishi e-Evolution Concept that’s debuting this week in Tokyo.

The e-Evolution concept is an all-electric SUV that combines Mitsubishi’s focus on SUVs and electric cars. On the outside the e-Evolution concept also reveals Mitsubishi’s new design language, “Robust & Ingenious.” Mitsubishi says that its future models will be sincere, tough, and functional, but at the same time, they will also be clever, resourceful, style-setting and technologically advanced.

We aim to provide vehicles that fulfill our customers’ desires through outstanding design, combined with the power, authenticity and carefully-considered functionality Mitsubishi Motors is known for,” said MMC Head of Global Design Tsunehiro Kunimoto.

At the front, the e-Evolution concept features a new take on the archetypal Dynamic Shield design. The black grille is shielded under glass, which also protects the underlying cameras and sensors. Large air intakes are located beneath the headlamps, ready to cool the electric brake calipers. As you move towards the rear, the e-Evolution concept’s design is more athletic than the current Mitsubishi models with its short overhangs and strong shoulders. The rear of the concept draws some inspiration from the Pajero SUV.

Under that new muscular exterior, the e-Evoultion concept is powered by three electric motors, with one motor powering the front and the other two powering the rear wheels. The concept also uses an Artificial Intelligence system that help the driver. An array of sensors allows the AI system to instantly read changes in road and traffic conditions, as well as the driver’s intent. Seamlessly coordinating driver intent with vehicle performance, the system supports drivers of all abilities.
