Mini is reportedly looking at the idea of adding a compact sedan to its lineup, according to a BMW AG board member that spoke with Automotive News, which may take priority over a production version of the Superleggera concept.
“It is a question you have to look at economically, and around the world you could say the sedan has the biggest potential, volumewise,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, BMW board member in charge of Mini. While Mini hasn’t fully decided the fate of the Superleggera roadster concept, adding a sedan to its lineup may be an easier option.

“Economically it is easier to put a sedan on paper than a great halo car,” Schwarzenbauer said. “We have to look at all the options.”
Mini will make the decision at some point this year about the compact sedan. An electric Mini is also in the works and a plug-in hybrid is slated to arrive within the next two years.
