Mercedes-Benz is expanding the 2015 S-Class lineup with two new fuel-efficient versions, the S300 BlueTEC Hybrid and S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC.
The S300 BlueTEC Hybrid is a diesel electric hybrid that is powered by a 2.2L four-cylinder diesel engine and an electric motor. The small 26 horsepower electric motor doesn’t have enough power to power the vehicle on its own, but instead supplements the 204 horsepower four-cylinder engine. Mercedes expects the S300 BlueTEC Hybrid to have a 54 mpg rating on the European combined cycle.
The S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC is powered by a 3.0L V6 diesel that sends its power to all four wheels via the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. The diesel engine packs 258 horsepower and 457 lb-ft. of torque. It is rated at 40 mpg on the European combined cycle.
Neither model has been confirmed for the U.S., but the S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC is expected to arrive here as a 2015 model.
