Mercedes-Benz's AMG Celebrates its 45th Anniversary

Back in 1967 the AMG performance brand was founded by by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. This year marks the 45th anniversary of Mercedes-Benz’s AMG.

Back in 1967 the AMG performance brand was founded by by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. This year marks the 45th anniversary of Mercedes-Benz’s AMG. For the 2013 model year the AMG range will include 17 models. Based on a future growth strategy entitled, “AMG Performance 50,” in the coming years, AMG will add several new models to its broad high-performance portfolio, some of which are teased in this photo.

“We are looking to increase our global sales which today stand around 20,000 vehicles, to more than 30,000 vehicles by the time our 50th anniversary, and thereby assert our leading position in this exclusive segment,” stated Ola Kallenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG
Mercedes-Benz has already confirmed an AMG version of the new A-Class, the A45 AMG, but it looks like there will also be more AMG versions of the next S-Class. Mercedes-Benz is also going to extend the availability of all-wheel-drive to AMG models other than its SUV lineup. The first model to get all-wheel-drive will be the A45 AMG. Sadly Mercedes-Benz’s press release states that the A45 AMG will not be available in the U.S. Lets hope that changes…
