Mercedes-Benz is going to take the covers off the first all-new 2019 G-Class next month at the Detroit Auto Show. This is the first redesign for the G-Class, since the iconic SUV debuted in 1979. Mercedes-Benz hasn’t unveiled its exterior, but instead we’re getting our first look now at the interior of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
Mercedes-Benz says that the overall design of the 2019 G-Class’s interior borrows styling cues from the exterior, like its round air vents that are inspired by the G-Class’s round headlights. The biggest change to the interior will be the new infotainment system with its large digital displays. The standard dashboard has an analog system in front of the driver, but just like the new E and S-Class you can select a more modern system that features two 12.3-inch displays beneath a shared glass cover. Drivers can choose between three different styles for the displays – “Classic,” “Sport” and “Progressive.”
The interior of the 2019 G-Class has also grown in nearly every dimension with 1.5-inches more legroom in the front and a whopping 5.9-inches of more space for your legs in the back. There’s also 1.5-inches more shoulder room in the front and 1.1-inches more shoulder space in the rear.
The rear seat can also be folded down to 60, 40 or 100 percent and there’s also heating for the front and rear seats. Plus buyers can also choose special multicontour seats, features range from massage functions, climatized seats, fast seat heating and electrically adjustable lumbar supports for the driver and front passenger.
If you would like more space for your stuff, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will also offer more storage areas. Under the armrest there is an illuminated compartment for small items and in front of the touchpad in the center console are two removable cup holders. The rear doors are each capable of accommodating a 1-liter water bottle.
“Every G-Class must be put to the test on the Schöckl.” And this was the motto that headed the list of requirement specifications when it came to redesigning this classic among off-roaders. It refers to the Graz plant’s local mountain, used by Mercedes-Benz for its hard – and some say even merciless – testing, and which each off-roader must be able to conquer. Which is why every “G” bears a certification mark in the form of a “Schöckl” badge at the base of its B-pillar.
