Mazda has released some details about its future electrification plans, which includes a new in-house hybrid powertrain and a special platform for its electric vehicles.

Mazda recently introduced the CX-50 Hybrid, its only electrified vehicle in its lineup, but its powered by a powertrain developed with Toyota. Mazda has announced that it is working on a new Skyactiv-Z engine, which will be combined with a new in-house developed hybrid system. The new hybrid powertrain will debut in the next-generation CX-5 in 2027.

Mazda’s new platform for battery EVs will be able to used for various battery types and vehicles. The first EV based on this new platform is set to debut in 2027.
