Mazda MX-5 Spyder and MX-5 Speedster concepts debut at SEMA

Mazda has unveiled two new design concepts at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas that are based on the 2016 MX-5 – the MX-5 Spyder and MX-5 Speedster. Both concepts take the MX-5 Miata’s lightweight performance to the extreme.

“Both MX-5 Spyder and MX-5 Speedster are uncompromising designs that highlight the core strengths of MX-5,” said Ken Saward, design manager, Mazda North American Operations. “The all-new 2016 MX-5 served as a blank canvas for our design team to create some truly one-of-a-kind cars, yet our SEMA concepts remain true to more than 25 years of MX-5 heritage.”

The MX-5 Spyder is inspired by vintage roadsters with its bikini top, Mercury Silver paint color, carbon fiber aero kit and its Prima natural leather seats. The MX-5 Speedster will give you the ultimate “wind-in-the-hair” driving experience, since it does away with a windshield.

The MX-5 Speedster concept also gets an adjustable coilover suspension, a Racing Beat center-mount exhaust, an interior trimmed in Alcantara and carbon fiber Mu-Len Delta seats The MX-5 Speedster also comes in at more 250 pounds lighter than the standard MX-5 Miata at 2,080 pounds.
