In January, Ford and EV start up Rivian made headlines when the two companies announced they were teaming up to build a new Lincoln electric vehicle. Well it looks like we have another victim of the coronavirus, since it’s now being reported by Automotive News that the project has been canceled.

“Given the current environment, Lincoln and Rivian have decided not to pursue the development of a fully electric vehicle based on Rivian’s skateboard platform. Our strategic commitment to Lincoln, Rivian and electrification remains unchanged and Lincoln’s future plans will include an all-electric vehicle,” a Lincoln official spokesperson told The Verge.

While the Rivian-based Lincoln EV is dead, that doesn’t mean the two companies are not going to work together. We don’t know exactly what the future holds, but the two companies are still planning to work together.

What’s also interesting is that today it was also discovered that Lincoln recently trademarked the name “Lincoln eGlide”. It’s clear that the name is related to an electric vehicle, but we don’t know yet what it will actually be used for.
