Up until now the Lexus’s high-performance F sub-brand has only consisted of more powerful versions of its sedans and coupes, but that might change soon. Lexus is reportedly thinking about introducing F-badged versions of its crossovers and SUVs.

Cooper Ericksen, vice president for product planning and strategy at Lexus told Motor1 at the Rolex 24 endurance race in Daytona Beach that the brand is having an “active conversation” about an F-badged crossover or SUV. While the Lexus may decide to build an F-badged it hasn’t decided if it should be a sportier on road SUV or an SUV that’s more capable off-road.

“[What] we’re currently trying to figure out is [if] the on-road performance aspect [is] more important [for Lexus] to invest in than the off-road performance.”

If Lexus decides to go forward with F-badged crossovers, that means that we’ll see it focus on on-road performance with models, like the UX, NX and RX. If off-road performance becomes the priority, then we might see and F-badged version of the body-on-frame GX or LX. For now we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
