Lexus unveiled the LF-C2 concept at the LA Auto Show last month and although it was expected that the concept previewed a new RC convertible, those rumors were quickly put to rest thanks to a new Lexus SUV. Now it’s being reported that Lexus could continue with plans to build the RC convertible.
The current Lexus IS convertible has aged and now Lexus is looking for a replacement. Even though Lexus dealers were up in arms about a new convertible that would further delay a new three-row SUV, Lexus still hasn’t given up on a new convertible. According to sources that spoke with Automotive News, Lexus is currently trying to figure out how to woo younger buyers and affluent baby boomers that don’t need a large vehicle, like an SUV.

While the replacement for the IS convertible hasn’t been decided, Lexus could build a convertible RC or a drop top version of the LF-LC concept. It was also reported last week that Lexus has filed trademarks for the LC 500 and LC 500h names, which are likely the production names for the LF-LC concept.
