In addition to showing off the new 2015 Kia Soul EV, Kia has announced plans to also show off its next-generation hybrid technology at the Geneva Motor Show, next month. The system was developed by Kia’s European R&D center and is expected to be used in future Kia models.
Kia has kept most of the details under wraps, but did reveal that the system consists of a 48V lead carbon battery that is mated to a small electric motor. In addition to increasing the engine’s power output, the battery also supplies energy to an electric super-charger, which increases torque and power at low engine speeds. The system is capable of powering a vehicle in electric-only mode at low speeds and while cruising.
