The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee launched in June and its been a success for Chrysler with sales up 291 percent in October from a year ago. Sergio Marchionne, CEO of both Chrysler and Fiat recently stated that he is looking to expand the use of the Grand Cherokee’s platform.

The new Dodge Durango that goes on sale next month uses the same platform as the Jeep, but this platform may also be extended to other Chrysler and even Fiat vehicles. Marchionne has discussed possibly developing a Maserati SUV based on the Grand Cherokee.

Any new models that use this platform will eventually be assembled at the Jefferson North assembly plant in Detroit that builds the Grand Cherokee and Durango.
