Jaguar has some big changes planned for the next-generation Jaguar XJ, with the biggest change being that it will initially only be offered with a fully electric powertrain. While it was initially reported that the next XJ will only be offered as an electric car, sources now claim that it will eventually get gas powered versions as well.

The next-generation Jaguar XJ will be built on the brand’s new MLA platform. It will be positioned as a rival to other flagship electric sedans, like the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan and the upcoming Audi E-Tron GT. The XJ will be powered by a 90.2 kWh battery pack, which will give it a driving range around 300 miles.

According to Automotive News Europe, eventually the next-generation XJ will also be offered with six-cylinder engine options for those buyers that don’t want an electric sedan. Although sources have revealed that the next XJ will get gas powered versions, the six-cylinder versions won’t be offered until later in its model cycle.
