Jaguar has unveiled the Jaguar Future-Type concept, which it describes as an on-demand autonomous vehicle that is designed to meet the mobility needs of the future generations. Jaguar sees a future in which drivers no longer actually own a car and instead summon a car when needed.
The Future-Type concept is controlled by a new intelligent and connected steering wheel called Sayer. The Sayer is a voice-activated Artificial Intelligence (AI) steering wheel that will be able to carry out hundreds of tasks. It can summon your car, play music, book you a table and even knows what’s in your fridge. Drivers would actually only own the Sayer steering wheel instead of the actual car, since it can be swapped in and out.
In the not too distant connected future, Jaguar sees a future of fully-charged Future-Type vehicles ready for customers on-demand. If you are taking your child to school, and only need two seats, you can summon a Future-Type with 2+1 social seating, so you can chat face-to-face as the car autonomously drives you to your destination using the most time and energy efficient route.
The concept also has the ability to be driven fully autonomously or if the driver does want to drive, the Sayer steering wheel can be used to control the vehicle.
