This year we’re seeing some old nameplates come back to life, like the Chevy Blazer and Honda Passport, but there could be more. General Motors recently trademarked the Envoy name, which hints at the return of the GMC Envoy SUV.
The GMC Envoy SUV disappeared from the GMC lineup almost a decade ago, since it was replaced by the Terrain and Acadia, but there might be room for another SUV in the lineup. GM Authority discovered the trademark, which was filed earlier this month. The site speculates that there are three possible options for a new GMC Envoy.
The first could be a new smaller crossover that would slot in below the Terrain in the GMC lineup, a GMC version of the midsize Chevy Blazer or a new three-row crossover that would be positioned above the Acadia. The third option is likely the outcome, since there is room for a larger crossover in the GMC lineup. The GMC Acadia and Chevy Traverse are based on the same platform, but the Acadia is 10-inches shorter than the Traverse, so the Envoy could more closely mirror the size of the Traverse.
