According to Infiniti’s new global president, Johan de Nysschen, the automaker is contemplating a new factory in Mexico to build a new small car. Johan de Nysschen, who recently left Audi to become Infiniti’s new president was also influential in Audi’s recent decision to build a plant in Mexico.

Johan de Nysschen recently told Automotive News, “If you’re building car for the U.S. market primarily, then U.S. production stands to reason. But if you want to do it for the global market, it gets more complicated.”

“We have to consider our aspirations for further growth in Europe as well as South America. If we export vehicles from here to Europe, it attracts import duties. If you export vehicles from Mexico, it does not.

Infiniti’s new president did not provide any other details about what would be produced at the new plant, but Infiniti has already confirmed plans to add a new small car to its global platform.
