Hyundai's Rear-Wheel-Drive BMW 3 Series Rival Could be Four Years Away

With the new 2015 Hyundai Genesis moving up market and also now starting almost $3,000 more than before, there may be room for a cheaper rear-wheel-drive sedan.

Hyundai is still trying to decide if it should add another luxury model to its lineup that would slot below the new Genesis. With the new 2015 Genesis moving up market and also now starting almost $3,000 more than before, there may be room for a cheaper rear-wheel-drive sedan.

Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America CEO, told Edmunds that the higher pricing for the 2015 Genesis “creates a little space” for a new model below it. “We think there is an opportunity for us in the BMW 3 Series space.”

The 2014 BMW 320i, the lowest priced 3-Series, starts at $33,675, so Hyundai could easily target a smaller rival around this price range. If Hyundai does give the small rear-wheel-drive sedan the green light, it probably won’t arrive for four to five years.
