The 2020 Hyundai Venue has been named as a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but only when it’s equipped with specific headlights.
In order to qualify for the Top Safety Pick award, a vehicle must earn good ratings in six crash tests, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The vehicle also needs advanced or superior ratings for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention, as well as an acceptable or good headlight rating.
The Venue is available with two headlight options. The available LED projector headlights earned an acceptable rating, but the base halogen projector headlights were rated as marginal due to inadequate illumination on curves. The marginal headlight rating prevents the Venue from qualifying for the higher TOP SAFETY PICK+ award.
This means that if the Hyundai Venue came standard with the LED headlights it would have received the higher safety rating.
