Following the one-off CR-V Roadster, Honda’s UK team has done it again with the debut of the equally as weird Civic Type R pickup truck concept. Just as its name suggests, the Honda Civic Type R pickup truck concept is a weird El Camino inspired version of the Civic Type R.

Honda UK tasked a specialist team from the Product Engineering department at the Honda of the UK Manufacturing factory in Swindon to create the Civic Type R pickup truck concept – codenamed ‘Project P’. Honda’s team started with the standard Civic Type R and thanks to several modifications, the Civic Type R pickup truck is one of the fastest pickup trucks on UK roads. Honda estimates that it can reach 62 mph in under six seconds and a top speed over 165 mph.

From the B-pillars back, the Civic Type R pickup truck has been completely reworked to fit a flatbed loading area in the center of the car where the rear seats and trunk would normally be. Even with the flatbed, the Civic Type R pickup truck keeps the large rear spoiler from the standard Civic Type R.

“We have a special projects division at the factory in Swindon and this project was a fantastic opportunity for the team to show just what their creative minds could do,” stated Alyn James, project lead. “The passion that our engineers have for Honda is shown in our latest creation and we are even considering taking it to the Nurburgring to see if we can take the record for the fastest front wheel drive pickup truck!”

Before you get too excited, Honda has no production plans for the Honda Civic Type R pickup truck concept.
