Acura has mainly only had a North American presence since its birth 28 years ago, but Honda has announced plans to expand its luxury division into more global markets, like Russia and China.
Honda has announced plans to introduce the Acura brand in Russia and the Ukraine in 2014 followed by the Middle East and Brazil in 2015. Honda hasn’t stated how many sales they would like to see from Acura’s expansion, but it is expected to be less aggressive than Nissan’s goals for Infiniti, which hopes to see its sales grow from 170,000 to 500,000 globally by 2017.

Last year Honda sold 176,000 Acura vehicles globally, with the US accounting for 156,216 units and Canada’s sales totalling 17,154. Honda hopes to expand its US sales to 200,000 units in the near future.

“Little by little, we have taken a bigger global footprint,” Jeff Conrad, Acura’s U.S. general manager, said at the introduction of the MDX cross-over here. “Our plans are not grandiose in scale, but they are rolling out.”
