Honda currently offers the HR-V, CR-V and Pilot crossovers, but according to one report Honda is getting ready to expand its crossover lineup next year. According to WardsAuto, Honda is going to introduce a smaller, five-passenger Pilot next year.

The new short-wheelbase Honda Pilot will enter production in fall 2018 at Honda’s Lincoln, Alabama plant. The move will give Honda another model to capitalize on the ever growing demand for crossovers in the U.S. Hyundai already offers two versions of the Santa Fe and Ford offers the Edge and Explorer models. You can even through in the Nissan Murano and Pathfinder in the mix, so it makes sense that Honda try to offer another midsize SUV for those that don’t need a third row.

The only question is will a short-wheelbase Pilot take sales away from the popular CR-V? If the short-wheelbase Pilot comes to market with a V6 engine and more style than either the CR-V and regular Pilot, Honda could have another hit on its hands.
