Honda has released some of the details for its new Sport Hybrid Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive hybrid system that will be used by Honda’s smaller vehicles. According to Honda, the Sport Hybrid Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive system will be the latest addition to the Earth Dreams Technology series of next generation powertrain technology that realizes both excellent driving performance and high fuel efficiency.
The new Sport Hybrid Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive system mates a new 4-cylinder 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine with a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission system with a built-in high-output motor and a Lithium-Ion battery to improve efficiency by more than 30 percent compared to a conventional one-motor hybrid system.
The new one-motor Sport Hybrid Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive system is the third hybrid system that Honda has developed. A two-motor system will be used by midsize vehicles like the Accord, and a three-motor system with SH-AWD will be used by models like the Acura RLX.
