In addition to the announcements about the new Fit-based crossover and fuel cell vehicle, Honda’s CEO also announced that Honda is working on a new open-top spors car and an all-new Civic Type-R.
First the open-top sports car will have “strong vehicle dynamics” when it goes on sale in Japan in 2014. It probably won’t be a successor to the S2000, since Honda also stated that the new sports car will be one of the six new mini-vehicle models. Instead of being an S2000 successor, the new sports car will most likely be similar to the EV-STER concept that Honda unveiled late last year.
The next Civic Type-R will arrive in 2015, in Europe. Honda has set the goal of “becoming the fastest front-wheel-drive vehicle on the Nurburgring race course.” The next Civic Type-R will use technologies that are being cultivated through participation in WTCC (FIA World Touring Car Championship) starting this year.
