The Jeep Wrangler continues to fly out of dealer showrooms and Ford is close to bring back the Bronco, but that doesn’t mean that GM wants to get in on the off-roading action. There were reports that GMC was working on a Bronco/ Wrangler rival, but now it’s reportedly off the table.

Muscle Cars and Trucks is reporting that the the GMC off-roader is dead. According to the website, any reports that GM is working on a body-on-frame SUV for North America is “operating on old data.” According to sources, GM decided to kill the plans back in November 2018, which is when GM announced a restructuring plan that included layoffs and plant closures.

The body-on-frame SUV was reportedly going to be based on a new 32XX platform, which would have also been used by the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickup trucks. Late last year GM decided to cancel the plans for the 32XX platform and instead revamp the existing 31XX platform that the Colorado and Canyon currently are based on. With the death of the 32XX platform, that also meant the body-on-frame SUV was no more.
