The 2021 Genesis G80 is not only a stylish sedan, but it’s also one of the safest large sedans you can buy. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced that the 2021 G80 has earned its highest safety rating, Top Safety Pick+.
To qualify for the Top Safety Pick+ rating, a vehicle must earn good ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests, which includes the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The vehicle must also be available with a front crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations, and good or acceptable headlights must be standard on all trim levels.
The G80’s standard front crash prevention system earns superior ratings in both evaluations and its LED projector headlights earn a rating of acceptable. The IIHS has one caveat though, that some of the earliest 2021 G80 sedans sold require an adjustment to the headlights to qualify for the award. Genesis has notified the affected owners and is offering to make the adjustment for free.
