Ford has revealed a new driver-assist system that can reduce the severity of or even eliminate some frontal collisions involving vehicles and pedestrians. The Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection system uses radar and camera technology to scan the road and warn the driver if a pedestrian is detected.
If the driver does not respond to the warning, the system has the ability to stop the car. Pre-Collision Assist may help drivers avoid rear end collisions with other vehicles at all speeds, while Pedestrian Detection can help the driver avoid pedestrians at lower speeds.

Ford says that the system has some limitations including use during nighttime, low and harsh lighting conditions, vehicles moving in a different direction and certain weather conditions.

The Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection system is going to launch first on the Ford Mondeo in Europe before it’s eventually offered on other Ford and Lincoln products around the world.
