First Ford has announced that it’s adding a second production plant to build its next-generation electric vehicles. Ford already confirmed plans to produce EVs at its Cuautitlan, Mexico plant and now it’s decided to tap the Flat Rock Assembly plant in southeast Michigan for EV production as well.

Ford is investing $850 million and adding 900 jobs through 2023 at the southeast Michigan plant.

“We’ve taken a fresh look at the growth rates of electrified vehicles and know we need to protect additional production capacity given our accelerated plans for fully electric vehicles,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s president, Global Operations.
