Ford is currently working on a new small truck that will be smaller than the Ranger. Ford hasn’t released too many details about it, but now we may know what it will be called the Ford Maverick.

This latest update comes to us from The Fast Lane Truck, which posted a CAD image of a tailgate that says the name “Maverick” on the back. Ford also recently trademarked the Maverick name and up until recently we thought the name was going to be used for the brand’s new small off-road ready SUV, but that’s now called the Bronco Sport.

We do know that the small pickup truck will be based on Ford’s C2 platform, which is used by its small crossovers and the Transit Connect, which means that it won’t have a body-on-frame layout. Under the hood the pickup will likely be powered by a range of small engines.

If the reports are accurate the Ford Maverick will be introduced for the 2022 model year.
