The Ford F-150 is available with a turbocharged 3.5L EcoBoost engine, that packs V8 power, without the lower fuel economy of a V8. Thanks to the high gas prices, sales of F-150 models equipped with the EcoBoost engine have exceeded expectations.

Marc Lapine, consumer marketing manager for Ford Motor Co told the Automotive News, “We had a sales forecast but it has jumped up a little faster than we thought.” The EcoBoost engine is now accounting for 36 percent of F-150 sales.

The cost of the EcoBoost engine ranges from $750 to $1,750 depending on which F-150 you choose. Ford dealers currently only have a 13 day supply of F-150s equipped with the turbocharged engine.

The 3.5L EcoBoost engine puts out 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft. of torque. It’s rated at 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway and can tow up to 11,300 pounds. To compare:

-The 5.0L V8 puts out 360 horsepower, gets 15/ 22 mpg and can tow 10,000 pounds.

-The 3.7L V6 with two-wheel-drive has 302-hp, gets 17/23 mpg and can tow up to 6,100 pounds.
