Ford owners will soon be able to interact with the navigation app, Waze if they have the SYNC 3 infotainment system in their vehicle. Rather than use the popular app through their phone, Waze users will now be able to use the app via the SYNC 3 touchscreen.
Ford unveiled the Waze integration at CES 2018, which easily integrates a user’s Waze-equipped smartphone by simply plugging it into the USB port in their vehicle. Once the phone is plugged in, Waze is projected onto the touchscreen.
“Our goal is to bring a human-centered approach to technology in the vehicle, making it as easy as possible for people to integrate the tools that matter most to them,” said Don Butler, Ford executive director, Connected Vehicle and Services. “With the flexibility of our SYNC 3 software and AppLink, customers can easily use Waze to get all the traffic and navigation help they need – on a big screen and without having to fiddle around with their phones while driving.”
The Waze integration will be available in the coming weeks on any 2018 Ford equipped with SYNC 3 version 3.0 or greater. Other SYNC 3-enabled Ford vehicles can receive an over-the-air update or an update via USB to enable Waze functionality.
