Fiat 124 Spider to debut this year with Mazda MX-5 Miata DNA

Fiat has already confirmed plans to introduce a new roadster that will be based on the new Mazda MX-5 Miata, which will be dubbed the Fiat 124 Spider. Now it’s being reported that the Fiat 124 Spider will debut later this year.

Fiat has already confirmed plans to introduce a new roadster that will be based on the new Mazda MX-5 Miata, which will be dubbed the Fiat 124 Spider. Now it’s being reported that the Fiat 124 Spider will debut later this year.
Edmunds claims that inside sources have confirmed that the Fiat 124 Spider will debut this year at either the Frankfurt Motor Show in September of the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. After its debut later this year, the Fiat 124 Spider will arrive sometime next year as a 2017 model.

The Fiat 124 Spider will be based on the MX-5 and will even be built at the same plant in Hiroshima, Japan, but the styling between the two roadsters is expected to be very different. The 124 Spider may even use a different engine, with some reports claiming that it will borrow the 1.4L engine from the 500 instead of the 2.0L four-cylinder in the MX-5.
