Tesla CEO’s Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla will introduce an electric pickup, but it won’t arrive until after the Model Y crossover debuts. “I promise that we will make a pickup truck right after Model Y,” Musk wrote on Twitter, in response to a request from the Vancouver Seed Bank.
The Tesla truck has already been part of Tesla’s plans for at least five years according to Musk, since he already had some of the key design details and engineering ideas in the works. Obviously the electric truck has taken a back seat to other models, like the Model S and Model 3.
Tesla recently hinted at the electric truck at the debut of the Tesla Semi. Tesla showed a sketch of a large truck that was capable of carrying a Ford F-150. While the sketch did make the truck look like it will be larger than the popular Ford truck, the production version will be closer in size to the Ford. Or “Maybe slightly bigger to account for a really gamechanging (I think) feature I’d like to add,” Musk revealed.
